Here is a quote from Matt Damon's speech at the Save Our Schools March in Washington, DC.

"I had incredible teachers. As I look at my life today, the things I value most about myself — my imagination, my love of acting, my passion for writing, my love of learning, my curiosity — all come from how I was parented and taught.

And none of these qualities that I’ve just mentioned — none of these qualities that I prize so deeply, that have brought me so much joy, that have brought me so much professional success — none of these qualities that make me who I am ... can be tested."

I am in agreement with Matt's statement, "none of these qualities that make me who I am ... can be tested.” As an educator I am amazed at the emphasis we place on testing to determine the fate of students. Often, the testing tools we subject our students are full of inconsistencies and in no way shape or form are an accurate portrait of our students. Testing tools such as the ACT and the SAT are excellent examples of poor resources we use to place yet ACT themselves have issues explaining to students how they justify their scoring mechanics. Yet, year after year tens of thousands of dollars are spent using testing tools to determine the career path of our students that personally are only used for financial gain by corporate America. Testing should be determined by growth and testing methods created specifically for content related to the curriculum applicants are applying for.
